THE LOCAL AREA

On the coast just 20 miles north of Liverpool, Southport is a traditional Victorian seaside town with a contemporary twist.

Combining attractions for all the family, fantastic shopping and a mouth-watering array of cafes and restaurants, there’s plenty to see and do. You'll also find the town has a vibrant and exciting nightlife. However, if it’s relaxation you’re looking for, the 22 miles of coastline and beaches, or scenic parks and gardens are perfect to help you unwind and recharge your batteries!

Southport lies at the centre of England’s Golf Coast with seven championship courses on the doorstep, including Royal Birkdale, which will once again host the Open in 2026 - and with over twenty courses reachable in under an hour, it's no wonder Southport is widely regarded as England’s Golfing Capital.

For more adventurous visitors, Southport is a great base for exploring the north west of England, whether it’s a day in nearby Liverpool or discovering the beauty of the Wirral or Lancashire countryside. With the largest area of undeveloped sand dunes in the UK, extensive Pine Woods and nature reserves, the thrill of the fair or even a bit of water park action, Southport really does have plenty to keep everyone entertained!

There is an extensive events programme in the town, centred around providing a friendly fun atmosphere for everyone. Whether you're attending a comedy, beer or gin festival, the Air Show in September, Musical Fireworks Championships in October, the Christmas lights switch on in November, or concerts in the summer months, Southport has a varied calendar of exciting goings on, many of which that are free to attend.

There are always new events being added to the calendar, so be sure to check out the Visit Southport website for all the latest news.
